Timber Plantation Shutters for Brisbane and Sunshine Coast Homes
Timber plantation shutters give you something no other material can match, which is a real painted or stained finish with visible grain and the full colour range that comes with it. We build ours from basswood, the species most Australian shutter makers settle on because it holds a straight line, takes paint evenly and stays light enough to run wide panels without strain on the hinges. If you're matching existing trim in a Queenslander, chasing a specific heritage colour, or you want a natural timber finish rather than a painted one, this is the material that gets you there.

Why basswood timber plantation shutters?
Timber shutters live or die on the species. Basswood has a tight, even grain with very little natural movement, which is what stops panels twisting out of square across a hot summer. It's also light for its strength, so a wide panel stays manageable on standard hinges.
Cheaper shutters get built from softer or coarser timbers that look fine on install day and start telling on you within a couple of years. The grain lifts under the paint, joints open up, and panels start to bow. Ask any supplier what species they're using and where it's finished. If they can't tell you, that's your answer.
Every panel we build is finished and cured properly before it leaves the factory, which is what stops the surface chalking or fading in strong Queensland light.

Since compiling quotes for my Shutters and Curtains, Chris had been exceptional in response and service. I didn't choose him for the cost, but for making my life easier and just allowing me to understand every little bit as much as he could. It felt like a breeze for something I thought wouldn't be! Thank you to Chris and the team at Twoshade. Best investment ever for my first new home build.

We cannot fault Chris or Shari.
Shari was so responsive from an
admin side and Chris's attention to detail during install and his site visit to measure and quote fabrics, he is an absolute wealth of knowledge!
We are beyond happy with the workmanship and quality.
Really pleased that we found Two Shade's. We're a two story house with a combination of sheer curtains and plantation shutters. Attached are an example of the sheer curtains.
We are happily recommending Two Shade's to anyone that asks about our window coverings.

Where timber plantation shutters earn their place
Character and Queenslander homes. Original window trim, picture rails and skirting rarely match a standard white. Timber lets us colour-match to what's already in the room instead of forcing you to compromise.
Bedrooms and living areas. Dry rooms where you want warmth in the finish rather than a flat painted surface.
Homes where you want stain, not paint. This is the one thing PVC can't do at any price. A stained basswood shutter shows grain and reads as furniture rather than a window fitting.
Wide openings. Basswood is lighter than PVC, so a single panel can run wider before weight becomes the limiting factor. On big living room windows that means fewer panels, fewer stiles and more glass.
Colour-matched joinery. If your kitchen cabinetry or built-ins are a specific colour, we can match the shutters to it.

Timber Plantation Shutter Questions
What timber are plantation shutters made from?
Basswood is the standard for good reason. Tight even grain, minimal natural movement, light for its strength, and it takes both paint and stain cleanly.
Can timber shutters go in a bathroom?
We don’t recommend it. Steam and standing moisture will eventually lift the grain and separate the finish. PVC is the material for wet rooms.
Can you match timber shutters to my existing paint colour?
Yes. Bring us a paint chip, an offcut of skirting or a cabinet door and we’ll match it.
Are timber shutters more expensive than PVC?
Usually, yes. The gap depends on window sizes, configuration and finish.
Will timber shutters warp in the Queensland heat?
Properly seasoned basswood with a cured finish stays stable in dry rooms. Warping is a symptom of poor timber, poor finishing or putting timber somewhere wet.
Can I get a stained timber finish rather than painted?
Yes, and it’s the main reason people choose timber.
