Shutters built for how Moreton Bay homes are put together

Moreton Bay covers a lot of ground and the housing stock changes with it. Through North Lakes, Mango Hill, Griffin, Murrumba Downs and the newer Narangba and Burpengary estates, we're mostly working with modern builds: wide stacker doors onto the patio, big west-facing living room windows, and open plan layouts where one wall is almost entirely glass. Those openings usually want bi-fold or sliding track shutters rather than hinged panels, so the walkway stays clear and you can still get out to the barbecue without folding something back first.

The older established suburbs run differently. Homes through Albany Creek, Bray Park, Strathpine and the Caboolture side often have non-standard window sizes, deeper architraves and existing trim colours worth matching rather than working around. That is where custom manufacturing actually earns its money instead of just sounding good on a website.

On the Redcliffe Peninsula and out to Bribie, salt air is the deciding factor. Scarborough, Woody Point, Newport, Bongaree and Banksia Beach all sit close enough to the water that we will usually steer you toward PVC rather than timber, particularly for anything on the weather side of the house.

Afternoon heat is the constant across all of it. West-facing windows in this part of Queensland take a beating from about two o'clock, and adjustable louvres let you cut the sun back without shutting the room into darkness the way a blockout blind does.

Where we work

Our patch runs from the Pine Rivers suburbs in the south, north to Caboolture and east to the water. In any given week Chris might measure a renovated post-war cottage in the older streets behind Redcliffe Jetty in the morning and a two-year-old build backing onto Lake Eden at North Lakes after lunch. Those two houses have almost nothing in common, which is the whole argument for measuring every window instead of working from standard sizes.

We cross the Ted Smout Bridge onto the peninsula most weeks, run up the Bruce Highway to Caboolture, Elimbah and Wamuran, and go over the Bribie bridge to Bongaree, Woorim and Banksia Beach regularly. West of the highway we cover the Pine Rivers suburbs around Strathpine and Bray Park, up through Warner and Cashmere to Eatons Hill and Albany Creek, and out to the acreage blocks at Samford, Closeburn and Dayboro where windows are often oversized and rarely standard.
